Xylosynth XS6 in Laminated Birch
Available in 2, 3 and folding 4 & 5 octave sizes
The unstained Birch Laminate keys are a modern-looking option. They are easier to manufacture than the Bubinga keys and accordingly are less expensive. The polyeurathane coated laminated keys are not so temperature and humidity sensitive so you can rest easy about day to day care. They are slightly less dense than the bubinga keys so are slightly more sensitive but the difference is hardly perceptible.
Like most piano keyboards the Xylosynth is velocity sensitive – the harder you hit the louder the sound – with the full MIDI range from 0 to 127.
The controls on the Xylosynth are very simple. There are two knobs situated top right hand. One is for setting length of note from 0.03 to 8 seconds but can be overidden at any time using the sustain . The other is for setting sensitivity depending on certain factors such as your playing style or circumstance (all is explained in the manual).
Below are the available options for our Xylosynth range – click on a description for an image of any of the options:
Next to the Power and ‘MIDI Out’ is the control panel where you can change sounds, transpose and sustain all in real time. It is also where you change functions and choose to scroll through all the sounds one at a time or make a smaller list of the sounds you need for a performance. You can also choose channel number for laptop based sounds or an ‘increment/decrement’ system should you need it.
As you can see, the controls on the standard Xylosynth are foot pedal operated. You will need at least one pedal to go with this instrument although any ‘normally open’ pedal will work (even for the sustain). You don’t have to buy our pedals although our ‘sustain’ pedal is particularly good being 14″ long and easy to find on the floor. Foot pedal controls are suited to very quick changes especially if playing with four mallets.
You can choose a push button control panel instead where you only need one pedal – for sustain. The set up is simpler, no dangling cables, fewer pedals to lose! The choice is yours.
The standard Xylosynth has no onboard sounds. Using the ‘MIDI out’ socket you can connect to your sound source using the 4-metre MIDI cable provided. You can also choose to have our onboard sounds. They are of average quality but inexpensive and a good way to start. This does not stop you accessing external sounds at any time using the ‘MIDI out’ and cable provided.
Our internal sounds come with a 3-digit LED display, headphone socket and a line-out to amplification.
